Alpina is as familiar to German enthusiasts as Shelby, Hurst, Saleen and Yenko are to American gearheads. And like its American counterparts, Alpina has made a business out of taking the best vehicles from one marque and making them substantially better than anything rolling off the assembly line.

The relationship between BMW and Alpina started in 1962 when a German enthusiast named Burkard Bovenseipen realized his BMW 1500 had plenty of untapped potential. Bovenseipen developed a dual carburetor kit for the 1500’s four-cylinder, and as the carbs flew off the shelves, he realized there was a serious market for BMW-based performance parts. Mr. B formed ALPINA Burkard Bovenseipen KG in 1964 and in the decades since Cheap Hale Bob Dresses, the company has become known simply as Alpina.

But while the name has changed, its mission remains the same, and its line of upgrades have grown considerably since its inception. Bovenseipen’s team continues to recognize the potential in almost every new BMW product, and the small but competent company, now managed by Bovenseipen’s son Andreas (his staff calls him Andy), delivers better, less compromised Herve Leger sale, higher-performance versions of BMW production cars.

In Europe, Alpina offers variants of the 3 Series, 5 Series and 6 Series, dubbed the B3, B5, and B6, respectively. However, production constraints (and some concerns about M cannibalization, we’re sure) prevents sales of these hotted-up Bimmers in the States. That’s a crime, because the Alpina B7 – the only Alpina available in the U.S. – is easily the best 7 Series we’ve driven.

SEIU Local 617 President Rahaman Muhammad is also supporting Rice, and the statewide union is expected to make an endorsement this week.

Muhammad said many of the 10th District candidates have good labor credentials, but Rice has the best.

Marco Rubio’s stock rose higher Wednesday as he secured a spot on TIME’s 100 Most Influential People In the World list replica watches, the only potential vice presidential picked by the magazine’s editors.

Nestled between singer Rihanna and cartoonist Ali Ferzat on the list, Rubio is considered a rising star within the Republican Party based on a mix of his Tea Party bona fides, Cuban ancestry, and leadership and quick ascension on the political ladder.

“I knew there was something special about Marco Rubio when I first met him as a young Republican city commissioner. Bilingual and bicultural, he represents the best of the emerging second generation of Cuban immigrants. His ascendancy in politics has not surprised me or the people who know him. Rubio’s abiding faith in the promise of America is so compelling,” former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush wrote of the young senator in TIME Magazine.”Today Senator Rubio, 40, is an eloquent voice for limited government, entrepreneurial capitalism and a robust foreign policy. Watching him operate in D.C. is refreshing as he continually seeks common ground with Democrats on issues like job growth and immigration without violating principle. Rubio is the real deal, and I for one look forward to watching him contribute to the rebuilding of our great country in the years to come.”

Rubio joins a handful of politicians on this year’s list, including President Obama, presumptive Republican nominee (and potential running mate for Rubio) Mitt Romney, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, and Ron Paul.

Rubio, who many speculate is in the top tier of potential vice presidential candidates, has waved off questions about being on the Republican ticket this fall, most recently saying in an interview with CNN en Español Friday, “I’m not going to be the vice president…I’m not.”

The most influential list replica watches, which was released Wednesday, includes people that the magazine says “inspire us replica watches, entertain us, challenge us and change our world.”

A spokesman for Rubio did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Rubio’s placement on the list.

Handmade Tattoo Machines

I have broken down a few shipping pallets, in my time. Most recently, I used pallet demolition to test out a Stanley FatMax Fubar they sent me for review. Each time, I am surprised at how much work is involved. Modern shipping pallets are tough and well-made, and do not come apart easily.

If I had to do it very often, I would spring for a purpose-made tool. Several commercial models can be found for sale online using Googlons like “pallet buster” and “deck wrecker,” but I’ve got a bit of a soft spot for the maker-made Pallet Reclamation Bar from Cargo Cycles of Norwich. As you can see in the video Tattoo Ink, it’s a heavy tool, and if you’re not in the UK shipping may be prohibitive. If you know your way around a welder, it would not be too difficult to build something similar yourself. The key features seem to be:

A long handle to provide plenty of leverage and allow you to work from a standing position.
One or more forks, each having two tines that can wrap around a stringer and pry on both sides at once against a board nailed on top.
A narrow fork for prying around nominal 2″ stringers, and a wide fork for prying around nominal 4″ stringers.

The Cargo Cycle Pallet Reclamation Bar does not seem to have a dedicated web presence, but its design, development, and construction are detailed in the linked thread, below, at British country living forum Over the Gate Ink Tattoo, and the video includes e-mail and telephone contact points for interested buyers.

Washington – House Speaker John Boehner says President Barack Obama is making the most powerful office in the world look “smaller.”

The Ohio Republican said Thursday Obama is “wasting time on a fake fight” with lawmakers over student loans while ignoring major issues like jobs and the economy.

He says Obama’s trips this week — to three big universities in swing states — are campaign stops and that the Obama campaign should reimburse taxpayers for the trips.

Boehner says trying to make efforts to prevent an increase in student loan interest rates a campaign issue is “pathetic” and that “the emperor has no clothes.”

Judge Holger Kircher said Microsoft breached an agreement with Motorola, which is in the process of being bought by Google Chanel Dresses sale, by applying certain video-compression software in products including Windows 7 and the Xbox 360 videogame console.

In the ruling, the judge ordered Microsoft to remove its popular game console as well as its Windows 7 operating system software from the German market.

The ruling followed a similar decision last week when a judge for the U.S. International Trade Commission said Microsoft infringed Motorola Mobility’s patents for technology such as wireless connections for the Xbox to the Internet and video compression to speed transmission.

Technology companies have invested billions of dollars in buying up patent portfolios that they can use defensively or offensively against rivals and spent still more money litigating in the United States and Europe.

The ruling is expected to have little impact for its Microsoft’s European operations as it is already moving its European software distribution centre to the Netherlands from Germany in anticipation of adverse judgments in the patent trial.

A spokeswoman for Microsoft said the outcome was “disappointing” but added the group would decide at a later stage on whether to appeal.

Is the Mini brand big enough for two convertibles

When we first drove the Mini Roadster barely a month ago, we couldn’t help but feel that it had, essentially, usurped the place that had until now been taken by the Mini Convertible. The Roadster is, after all, sleeker Cheap DKNY Clothes, more stylish Replica Hale Bob Dresses, that much more fun and – for some reason – even a little cheaper ($600 lower MSRP) than the four-seat cabriolet. But does that leave the Convertible without a place in the brand’s ever-expanding lineup?

Since both are based on more than just the same platform, the specs are just about identical. That is, except when it comes down to interior space. While the Convertible has a pair of seats in the back – however small, still good for taking the kids for a spin or tossing an extra duffel – the Roadster has none. The Roadster Cheap Missoni Dresses, however, makes up for that with a relatively usable trunk where the Convertible has practically none. The Roadster also weighs 66 pounds less Buy Chanel Dresses, and has more headroom (up front, of course), though front elbow room takes a three-inch hit.

So with a fresh crop of images released by Mini showing its two droptops side by side Cheap DKNY Clothing, our question is which Chloe Dresses sale, if any, you’d choose if you were in the market for a little retro convertible. Cast your vote in the poll below.

Everything you need to know about the new political group No Labels is contained in its slogan: “Not Left. Not Right. Forward.” It’s smug. It sounds like an Obama campaign catchphrase. And it ignores the whole reason politics exists, which is that not everyone agrees on what “Forward” is.

A group of political and media A-listers descended on Columbia University Monday morning for the group’s big launch event, which co-founder Mark McKinnon dubbed in his introductory remarks “our little Woodstock of democracy.” No Label seeks to be the voice of reason in an increasingly hyper-partisan environment—a counterweight to interest groups at either end of the political spectrum. Instead of rewarding candidates who spew partisan talking points, No Label says it will raise money for moderate candidates who embrace what co-founder Jon Cowan calls the “three C’s”: co-sponsors, common ground, and civility.

The guest list at Monday’s confab said as much about the group as its slogan. Attendees were a mix of media commentators (David Brooks, Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski), recent political losers (former Delaware Rep. Mike Castle, former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist), politicians who aren’t seeking re-election (New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg Fake Burberry Watches for sale, Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh), and moderates who have special permission to buck their party (incoming West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman). In other words, a bunch of people with nothing at stake.

Even if they did have something to lose, signing onto “No Labels” is risk-free. The group’s mission statement is filled with the bland pablum of political campaigns. It’s the kind of stuff that’s so obvious, no one would ever disagree. “Americans are entitled to a government and a political system that works—driven by shared purpose and common sense.” Unlike all those groups that prefer a political system that doesn’t work. “Americans want a government that empowers people with the tools for success … provided that it does so in a fiscally prudent way.” Me, I’m for spending wads of money on failure. “America must be strong and safe, ready and able to protect itself in a world of multiple dangers and uncertainties.” That is going to upset their rival group, Americans Against Strength Replica Wyler Watches, Safety, Readiness, and Ability To Protect Ourselves. Their mission is so popular, even Akon could get behind it. (Sample lyric: “See a man with a blue tie/ See a man with a red tie/ So how about we tie ourselves together and get it done.”) And if members were worried about how it would play in the polls Replica Free Gift Watches, don’t worry: Its founder, Nancy Jacobson, is married to Hillary Clinton pollster Mark Penn.

To prove that political compromise is possible, politicians at the No Label event touted their own bipartisan achievements. New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand cited a bill she co-sponsored with Republican Sen. Tom Coburn that created searchable databases for earmarks. “He wants to ban all earmarks Replica Breitling Watches for Cheap, and I like federal investments to create jobs, but one thing we agree on is about transparency,” she said. Well, sure, but they still disagree on banning earmarks and federal spending. Cooperating on a softball issue like transparency doesn’t change that.

The group takes a pass when it comes to issues that actually divide people, like gay marriage and abortion. Anticipating this critique, the group’s Web site argues that social issues have been used to “keep Americans from working together.” Instead, it says Best place to buy Replica Hermes Watches, “We want to help call a cease-fire in the culture wars by focusing on common ground goals rather than absolutist positions on the left or right.” Even on an issue as polarizing as abortion, says co-founder and CNN personality John Avlon, most Americans agree that the procedure should be “safe, legal Fake Graham London Watches, and rare.” But his answer seems to undermine the point of the group. If there’s consensus on so many issues, what’s the point of creating a group? To defend that consensus?
