Kris No romantic ties with Chiz, Junjun Binay

Saturday, January 21st, 2012

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – Kris Aquino on Friday denied any romantic links between her and two well-known politicians.

In an exclusive tell-all interview with "Showbiz News Ngayon" host Boy Abunda Replica handbags, Aquino denied being linked to Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero and Makati Mayor Jejomar "Junjun" Binay.

"Maganda po ang kuwentong ito. Kasi Boy ganito, proclamation ni PNoy (his brother President Benigno Aquino III) sa Batasan. Sinamahan ko si PNoy paakyat. All my sisters were already sitting there, so I went up with him. And then nakita niya si Senator Chiz at sinabi niya, ‘O Kristina, si Senator Chiz.’ And then sinabi ko na ‘Senator, thank you for all the help.’ And then I said this – and may mga nakarinig, so malamang doon nagsimula, hindi ko alam – I said, ‘O, Senator, sa 2016, puwede tayong magtambalan, at may slogan na tayo: Chiz si Krissy!’ And then he said: ‘Game ako diyan!’" she narrated.

"That’s it, Boy. I do not have his number, he does not have my number. I have never seen him again since that time. We barely know each other. Biniro ko lang siya na sa 2016, maganda kaming tandem. Hindi ko alam kung saan nanggagaling ang balita na iyan kasi iyan talaga, sobrang imbento," she said.

"And again, Boy, he’s married, he has twins. I also know what it’s like na ma-tsimis ang asawa mo na hindi namamatay ang tsismis," she said.

"Maawa tayo sa asawa niya Replica Watches, maawa tayo sa pamilya niya, and please, maawa kayo sa akin at sa mga kapatid ko. Kasi the last thing I want is to be accused of being a homewrecker," she added.

Binay: Not yet time

Meanwhile, regarding Binay, Kris said that the Makati mayor is not wooing her.

"Kaklaruhin ko po: Hindi siya nanliligaw sa akin. Pero matalik ko siyang kaibigan," she told Abunda.

However, she admitted that among all the people being linked to her, Binay is "the only one I’ve been communicating with."

"Nakilala ko siya when I was losing my mother. Nakilala niya ako when he was losing his wife. In the span of that one year, both our lives have changed so much," she said.

Binay’s wife, Kennely Ann, died after going through a difficult pregnancy, just days after the death of former President Corazon Aquino in August last year.

"He’s been good to me. A true friend. Kung tatanungin niyo ako, nasa kanya ang qualities that I admire in a man. He’s smart, he’s hardworking, he’s responsible, he has accomplishments of his own. Mapagmahal siya sa pamilya niya, mapagkakatiwalaan siya," she added.

"Ang pinakaimportante, kapag si Josh at si Bimby well-adjusted na sa situation, and if Junjun were to say, ‘Kris, gusto mo ba mag-dinner?’, I’d say yes. Why? Dahil alam ko na ‘di niya ako lolokohin," she said.

"He knows, and I know, that now is not the right time," she added.

First show without mom Cory

Later, when asked about her mother, Aquino became emotional.

"[She would say,] Good luck about tomorrow. Kasi alam niya na that’s what I love the most, and alam niya how much joy ang maibibigay ko sa mga tao, and alam niya na I’m at a good place in my life now – mature enough ako na pahahalagahan ko talaga iyan – at aalagaan ko kasi napakalaking biyaya nito," she said.

"This is the first big show that I’ll be launching na wala na ang mommy ko. She was my biggest fan, my biggest cheerleader, and nakabangon ako ng ilang beses dahil andoon ang mom ko," Kris said.

She also clarified her TV comeback.

"Ang sinabi ko po is that it’s very difficult to be in a show where you give opinions, because whatever opinion I make will be a reflection on the President, because he’s my brother," she said.

Kris said she preferred to have a game show instead.

"I’ve always said I would love to do a gameshow kasi naman hindi kontrobersyal," she said.

"I’m so excited to have a game [show] again," she added.

The exclusive interview with Abunda came after she arrived from a 3-week vacation in the United States, with sons Joshua and James Jr., on Friday.

She granted an exclusive interview to her close friend and manager Boy Abunda at the airport’s presidential lounge.

According to an ABS-CBN News insider, Kris answered all the controversies hounding her including the status of her relationship with James.

"It must have been love but it’s over now," the insider quipped, quoting Kris. With a report from Ginger Conejero, ABS-CBN News

South Koreans cry foul over beef, turn to greasy p

Friday, January 20th, 2012

SEOUL (Reuters Life!) – In South Korea Replica Watches, U.S. beef is out and greasy pork is in.

Just don’t mention the calories or cholesterol.

U.S. and South Korean trade envoys said at the weekend they had forged a deal to allow a wide variety of U.S. beef products back into South Korea, which banned imports in 2003 after an outbreak of mad cow disease in the United States.

Before the ban went into effect, one of the most popular items at Korean barbecue restaurants across the country was a dish called L.A. galbi, an inexpensive cut of U.S. beef attached to ribs.

With cheap U.S. meat no longer available and South Korea having some of the highest beef prices in the world, restaurants needed something inexpensive to toss on the grill. They turned to the dish called “samgyupsal”, a fatty section of pork belly.

Samgyupsal, layered meat and fat that looks like thick slices of bacon, has now become a grilled staple in smoke-filled eateries from the southern resort island of Jeju to the border with North Korea.

One popular twist is tilting the barbecue sheet at an angle to let the grease from the pork flow into a pickled and peppered cabbage dish called kimchi grilling at the bottom of the pan.

“As the greasy pork slides into my stomach, I can feel all the stress from my job slipping away,” said C.J. Kim, one of several salarymen at a Seoul barbecue joint ending the evening with samgyupsal and cheap liquor.

L.A. galbi, with L.A. standing for Los Angeles and galbi being Korean for a cut of beef on the rib, made up a hefty portion of the nearly 200,000 tonnes beef imported into South Korea in 2003 before the beef ban.

Industry experts are not sure how much market share L.A. galbi will regain in South Korea once U.S. imports resume, given the depth of anger over the beef deal.

Tens of thousands of Koreans have taken to the streets for weeks demanding U.S. beef stay out of the country because they fear it still poses a mad cow disease risk.

The Korea Swine Association said the U.S. beef ban has led to a boom for its business.

For public health, though, that’s a different matter.

According to the Korea Health and Industry Development Institute, the pork dish has added calories to the national diet while the Korea Agro-Fisheries and Trade Corporation says Samgyupsal is brimming with saturated fat and cholesterol.

“It is best to cut out as many of the fat layers as possible (before grilling) Replica handbags,” said Lee Young-eun, a nutrition expert at Wonkwang University.

Big coffee drinkers hallucinate more study

Friday, January 20th, 2012

LONDON – People who drink more than seven cups of coffee a day tend to hallucinate more than less caffeine-driven colleagues, according to a study published Wednesday.

Those with a high caffeine intake are three times more likely to have heard a non-existent person’s voice than those who drink one cup a day, said the research by psychologists at Durham University.

But the study noted that the tendency to hear voices or have other hallucinations may not be caused by caffeine, but simply reflect the kind of people who drink lots of coffee.

"This is a first step towards looking at the wider factors associated with hallucinations," said Simon Jones, the PhD student who led the study.

"Previous research has highlighted a number of important factors, such as childhood trauma. Many such factors are thought to be linked to hallucinations, in part because of their impact on the body’s reaction to stress."

Co-author Charles Fernyhough stressed that the study did not confirm a causal link between caffeine intake and hallucinations, noting also that three percent of people regularly hear voices in their head.

"One interpretation may be that those students who were more prone to hallucinations used caffeine to help cope with their experiences Replica handbags," he said.

"More work is needed to establish whether caffeine consumption, and nutrition in general Replica Watches, has an impact on those kinds of hallucination that cause distress."

The researchers now plan to study the impact of other forms of food and drink on hallucinations.

"It’s surprising that there has been so little research into nutrition and hallucinations. In some countries high consumption levels of sugar and saturated fat are linked to poor mental health outcomes," said Jones.

"Given the link between food and mood, and particularly between caffeine and the body’s response to stress, it seems sensible to examine what a nutritional perspective may add."

The study appears in the journal Personality and Individual Differences.

Sino-Forest Cut by Moodys; Further Possible Downgr

Saturday, January 14th, 2012

By Michael Tighe and Jesse Riseborough

(Updates with closing share price in sixth paragraph.)

July 19 (Bloomberg) — Sino-Forest Corp., the Chinese forestry operator targeted by short-seller Carson Block, had the ratings on its debt cut by Moody’s Investors Service amid an investigation into allegations about its plantation holdings.

Moody’s downgraded Sino-Forest’s debt to B1, four levels below investment grade, from Ba2 and is continuing its review for further possible downgrade, the ratings company said today in a statement.

Sino-Forest plunged 76 percent after Muddy Waters LLC, a research company founded by Block, said in a June 2 report that the company overstated its tree-plantation holdings. Hong Kong- and Mississauga Replica Watches, Ontario-based Sino-Forest, which has denied the allegations, has commissioned an independent investigation into the claims and appointed PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP to assist.

The ratings cut “reflects Moody’s expectation that Sino- Forest’s operations have been adversely impacted by the current investigations,” Ken Chan, a Moody’s vice president and senior analyst, said in the statement. “The longer it takes for the investigation to complete, the greater will be the pressure on Sino-Forest’s liquidity position.”

Stan Neve, an external spokesman for Sino-Forest, declined to comment.

Sino-Forest rose 75 cents, or 21 percent, to C$4.28 at 4 p.m. in Toronto Stock Exchange trading.

Paulson Stake

Fitch Ratings withdrew its BB- rating on Sino-Forest last week because it was unable to obtain enough information. Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services on June 30 lowered Sino- Forest’s long-term corporate credit rating to B+ from BB and placed it on CreditWatch with negative implications.

China’s reputation among investors has been strained in recent months after short sellers said companies from Longtop Financial Technologies Ltd. to Sino-Forest were exaggerating operations. Paulson & Co. replica handbags, the hedge fund that had been Sino- Forest’s largest shareholder, said last month in a letter to clients it sold its entire 12.5 percent stake and had lost C$462 million ($486 million) since May 31 on Sino-Forest.

Sino-Forest last month said its investigation won’t be completed for two to three months.

Axl Rose Ejects Unruly Fan From Vancouver Gig

Axl Rose, lead singer of Guns N’Roses, has once again had his attitude towards the group’s fans called into question, as he had a gig-goer ejected from their concert in Vancouver last Saturday (December 17, 2011), reports Nme.com, who credit Jam Showbiz.

During their set at Vancouver’s Pacific Coliseum, the singer reportedly became irritated by the fan’s ‘unruly’ behaviour and ordered the security team to have him forcibly removed from the venue. Current reports on the matter do not detail exactly what it is that the fan had done to annoy Rose but it has been reported that Axl shouted at him “Out, mother f***er! Out! Get the f*** out! Yeah You! See ya, you dumb mother f***er.” Earlier this year, Dave Grohl threw a fan out of a Foo Fighters gig, though in this instant is seemed apparent that the man in question had been fighting in the moshpit and Grohl was widely praised for his actions.

Reports on Axl Rose’s motives are, as yet, unclear and it wouldn’t be the first time that the rocker has been criticised for disrespecting the band’s fans. In October 2011, Guns N’Roses turned up two hours late for a festival headline slot at the Brazilian Rock In Rio festival. A two-hour wait pales in comparison, though, to the 15 years their fans had two wait between their 1993 album The Spaghetti Incident? and its follow-up, Chinese Democracy, which was finally released in 2008.

Kenyas Shilling Slips Most in Three Weeks on New R

Friday, January 13th, 2012

By Sarah McGregor

Aug. 29 (Bloomberg) — Kenya’s shilling depreciated the most in almost three weeks against the dollar after the central bank moved to reduce the rate at which lenders borrow funds.

The currency of East Africa’s biggest economy lost 1.6 percent to 94.33 per dollar by 11:16 a.m. in Nairobi, the capital, the biggest decline since Aug. 9 Replica Watches, when the shilling reached 95.1. That was the weakest intraday level since March 1994, when the nation abolished exchange controls.

From today, the central bank will include a factor ranging from zero to one based on “the specific liquidity conditions in the interbank market” when calculating its overnight discount rate, it said in an Aug. 26 statement on its website. The bank will also use a moving average of interbank lending rates over a longer, unspecified period to work out its overnight borrowing rate, instead of applying the previous day’s rate. The bank stopped publishing the rate on Aug. 19.

“Having previously resolved not to publish the discount rate, the new circular has introduced yet even greater uncertainty in the market,” Phumelele Mbiyo, an analyst with Standard Bank Group Ltd. replica handbags, wrote in an e-mailed note to clients today. The bank’s Aug. 12 resolution resulted in lenders not being “assured that they would be eligible for funds. The new circular also ensures that on any day banks will not know what the current discount window rate is, thereby rendering the current level of the discount rate irrelevant as a potential anchor for setting interbank rates.”

Rate ‘Penalty’

The bank on Aug. 12 said it would increase the charges for banks using its overnight window to tighten money supply and shore up depreciation in the shilling, which reached a 17-year low on Aug. 9 as the cost of importing food and fuel pushed inflation to 15.5 percent in July, more than triple the bank’s target.

Average interbank rates leapt to 26.4 percent by Aug. 25, compared with 8.34 percent before the new rules were introduced. The bank started applying a three percentage-point “penalty” on the benchmark rate or the interbank rate, whichever was higher, on borrowing from its overnight window starting Aug. 15.

The Aug. 26 rules represent a “relaxation of the monetary stance,” Mbiyo wrote. “With the shilling failing to receive much support even as the increase in interbank rates became disorderly, perhaps due to the policy stance being viewed as not credible by the market, the shilling is likely to depreciate if interbank rates decline.”

The central bank loosened the requirement regarding the value of deposits lenders keep in reserves. Banks will need to maintain the cash-reserve requirement of 4.75 percent over a monthly rather than daily basis, as long as daily holdings don’t dip below 3 percent, it said.

Dryness in the U.S. northern Plains, where spring wheat is grown, will speed local harvesting, Telvent DTN said.
